Most delivery companies in Bengaluru ask for the same kinds of papers: ID and address proof, a PAN card, your licence and vehicle papers, and bank details. What you need on top depends on the company and on whether you ride a motorbike, an e-bike or a cycle. Here is what each one is for and who asks for it.
ID and address proof: Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID
Companies use these to confirm who you are and where you live.
- Aadhaar card: Swiggy Instamart and Delhivery ask for it. Swiggy takes an Aadhaar card or a Voter ID card. Rapido (and so Ownly) takes an Aadhaar card or a PAN card.
- PAN card: on the lists of Blinkit, Zomato, Swiggy, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Amazon Flex, Amazon Now and Delhivery.
- Identity proof: Zepto, Shadowfax, XpressBees and BB Now ask for it; BB Now verifies your rider profile with identity proofs.
- Address proof: Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto, Shadowfax and XpressBees. Uber Moto asks for proof of residence in your city.
A photo is needed too at some: Rapido asks for a profile photo and Uber Moto for a photo.
Driving licence and vehicle papers
If you ride a motorbike or scooter, expect to show:
- Driving licence: on most lists, from Blinkit and Zomato to Shadowfax and XpressBees. Rapido also wants at least 2 years of driving experience.
- RC (registration certificate): Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto (motorcycle), Amazon Flex, Amazon Now, Rapido, Ownly and Uber Moto.
- Insurance certificate: Blinkit, Zomato, Amazon Now, Rapido, Ownly and Uber Moto. Amazon Flex asks for at least third-party cover.
- Pollution certificate (PUC): Zepto (motorcycle), Amazon Flex and Amazon Now. Rapido wants a valid PUC on the vehicle.
- Extra papers: Rapido asks for a valid fitness certificate and permits, and no pending challans; Uber Moto lists a permit.
On an e-bike: Amazon Flex and Amazon Now ask for the e-bike exemption certificate.
On a cycle: Swiggy and Swiggy Instamart don't need a driving licence. Instamart doesn't need one on an EV either.
Phone and background checks
Your phone is your work tool, and some companies set a minimum:
- Zomato: Android, version 6.0 or higher, with at least 2 GB RAM.
- Amazon Flex: Android, version 13 or higher, with at least 3 GB RAM, a camera with flash, GPS and an active SIM with calls and data.
- Blinkit: an Android phone with an active internet connection. Delhivery also asks for an Android phone.
Background checks come before your first order at several companies. Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto, Shadowfax and Flipkart Minutes verify you before you start. Rapido asks for consent to police verification. Uber Moto runs a background screening. Delhivery checks documents first, and onboarding takes about two days.
Minimum age
The usual minimum is 18: Blinkit, Zomato, Amazon Flex, Amazon Now, Rapido, Ownly, Uber Moto and XpressBees all say so. Zepto asks for an adult Indian resident. Amazon Flex asks for 20 if you drive a commercial three-wheeler.
Getting your papers ready
- Open the page of the company you want, for example Blinkit or Swiggy. Its documents box lists what that company asks for.
- Take clear photos of each document and keep them in one folder on your phone.
- Check the dates on your insurance and PUC, so nothing runs out during onboarding.
