How food delivery work differs by company
- Swiggy: bike, e-bike or cycle, and renting one is allowed. A driving licence is needed for a motor vehicle, not for a cycle. You choose part-time or full-time shifts.
- Zomato: a two-wheeler that meets legal and safety rules; Zomato also mentions cycles. You need an Android phone, version 6.0 or higher, with at least 2 GB RAM, and you must be at least 18. A background check comes before your first order.
- Ownly: Rapido's food delivery service in Bengaluru. Orders are delivered by Rapido Captains, so you join as a Captain, on your own bike, with a valid licence. Rapido does not rent out EVs in Bengaluru.
Pay and joining costs in food delivery
Swiggy pays by the number of deliveries you complete; what you earn depends on the city and your order count. Money goes to your bank account every week. The onboarding fee is around ₹1,500, varies by city, and is deducted in instalments after you join.
Zomato pays for each delivery, also weekly. It mentions a starting bonus (a minimum number of orders in a set time) and a referral bonus, both varying by city. Its onboarding fee for training and support is paid once or in instalments; the amount depends on the city.
Ownly: Rapido says joining as a Captain is free of cost.
