No bike of your own does not rule out delivery work in Bengaluru. Shadowfax rents out electric vehicles to its partners, and Swiggy and Swiggy Instamart accept a rented bike, e-bike or cycle. Rapido is different: it does not rent out EVs in Bengaluru, so Captains need their own bike.
Companies that rent out or provide a vehicle
- Shadowfax: asks for access to a two-wheeler and rents out electric vehicles to its delivery partners.
- Flipkart Minutes: riders in some cities can rent an electric two-wheeler through Flipkart's EV Assist. Ask our team whether it applies in Bengaluru.
- Zepto: its agreement expects you to bring a two-wheeler, unless Zepto provides a cycle or e-cycle.
- Rapido: no EV rental in Bengaluru. The same goes for Ownly deliveries, which Rapido Captains do.
- XpressBees: does not provide bikes; you bring your own.
Companies that accept your rented vehicle
If you rent an EV yourself, these companies say a rented vehicle is fine:
- Swiggy: a bike, e-bike or cycle, and renting one is allowed.
- Swiggy Instamart: the same, and no driving licence is needed if you deliver by cycle or EV.
Amazon Flex and Amazon Now take an e-bike that meets legal and safety rules, with a helmet while riding. Ask our team whether a rented one works there.
The EV must meet the company's rules either way. Amazon, for example, asks that the vehicle meets all legal and safety requirements.
What to ask before you rent
Get clear answers, in writing if you can, before you sign up for a rental:
- What is the rent, and is it charged per day, per week or per month?
- Is there a deposit, and when do you get it back?
- Where do you charge or swap the battery, and who pays for the power?
- How far does a full charge take you on a normal working day?
- Who pays for repairs, a flat tyre or a breakdown?
- Is the vehicle insured, and what happens if it is damaged or stolen?
- Can you return it early, and is there a notice period?
- Which papers come with it, such as the RC, insurance or an e-bike exemption certificate?
