Traffic and peak hours in Bengaluru: what they mean for your pay

Peak hours can pay more: Shadowfax has peak-hour incentives and XpressBees pays peak-hour bonuses. Traffic works the other way at some companies, because slow deliveries can mean fewer orders. Here is how each pay model treats busy roads and busy slots, and how to plan your day around them.

When traffic slows you down

  • Zepto: traffic is one of the things its service fee is based on, along with distance, time taken, demand, weather and customer rating.
  • Flipkart Minutes: Flipkart says payouts are not linked to how fast or slow a delivery is made.
  • Amazon Now: waiting time between deliveries is paid as part of the block minimum pay.
  • Porter: fares follow standard rates, with no bargaining per trip.
  • Per-delivery pay at Swiggy, Zomato and Blinkit: a jammed hour means fewer deliveries, and pay follows the number of deliveries. Blinkit adds incentives for distance and weight.

Picking busy slots

Ask our team which slots count as peak for the company and area you want.

To work the busy slots and rest in between, look at companies that let you pick your hours:

  • Swiggy and Swiggy Instamart: part-time or full-time shifts.
  • Porter: part-time or full-time; earnings follow your time online.
  • Amazon Flex and Amazon Now: you book blocks, and each Amazon Flex offer shows its estimated earnings.
  • Shadowfax: no minimum number of deliveries per day.

How long you can stay online

Rapido has no fixed shift, but its Captain terms cap your time on the platform at 12 hours a day. Long days add up fast in traffic, so plan breaks for water and food, and stop when you are tired.

Riding smart in city traffic

  1. Charge your phone fully and carry a power bank before a busy slot.
  2. Keep the phone mounted, and don't type while riding.
  3. Keep fuel or charge topped up before peak time, not during it.
  4. Wear your helmet every ride; Amazon Flex and Amazon Now ask for one on a two-wheeler or e-bike.
  5. Count fuel in your earnings: XpressBees, for one, says fuel is paid by you.
